I've created a new blog to house most of my musings about me, the comics, and all about working with the web. Feel free to pop by and drop me a comment. I'm here all week.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund Releases White Paper on Improving Degree Attainment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Recent statistical reports scrutinize Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and indicate that graduation rates are substantially lower than majority institutions. To that end, a consortium of higher education experts converged to begin dialogue on creating a comprehensive measure to assist HBCUs in developing meaningful action plans to increase academic achievement among low-income students of color. The Best HBCU?

There is no such thing as "the best HBCU, the second best HBCU, the third best HBCU, etc"; nor is there such a thing as "the best predominantly White institution (PWI) of higher learning, second best, third best, etc. " Annual "rankings" of colleges and universities are nothing more than mildly entertaining bits of gossip whose primary function is to promote the sales of the magazines in which they appear. They should never be taken seriously.

Unfortunately, when they are taken seriously, these so-called "rankings" can cause prospective students to make very bad career decisions because they distract attention from the real question: Which HBCU is best for YOU? This question has become even more critical in the context of the worst recession since the Great Depression. More...

To The Rescue!

Michele gets a surprise assist from the two girls on the volletball team (They gave her the shirts, remember?). And they finally made good on their promise!

:-)

So, what's the OA story about?

This story takes place approximately a year after the ending of the OS. The pack are in their senior year at Westside High, and they're preparing for their College Tour Trip, which will involve visiting 3 colleges in the state. The three campuses, all in the same city, are Garvey College, Haywood University, and Banneker-Carver College. Michael, interested in biochemistry, wants to attend Haywood, which was Professor Struball's previous teaching post. However, Michael is still suffering from occasional side effects associated with the last blast of the Professor's machine. When his condition becomes unbearable, he winds up in the hospital. They decide to quarantine Michael while they investigate his unusual blood cell activity. It all seems pretty routine, until a medical test reactivates his dormant mutation cells, and starts the transformation to “Michele” all over again. This time, however, the professor has no machine to change her back. Not wanting to miss the college trip, the Chandler family figures out a way to get Michele on the college tour. They succeed, and once on the college campuses, Michele's mysterious charm weaves its universal effect on everyone she encounters.

Attending an HBCU? Peep this!

Spelman College, Howard University, and Hampton University, top the list of U.S.News and World Report's first annual ranking of the nation's historically black colleges and universities. The "America's Best Black Colleges" rankings were released last October online at www.usnews.com/blackcolleges.
"As historically black colleges and universities continue to play a vital role in today's higher education landscape, we decided to create a specific ranking of them to allow apples-to-apples comparisons of these schools," said Brian Kelly, editor of U.S.News and World Report. "This unique ranking offers for the first time an independent perspective on these institutions to help students and parents make an informed choice about one of life's most important and expensive decisions."More...
