The OS Cast
The OS cast was constantly evolving as I did sketch after sketch, trying to finalize their individual parts in the story. This is a list of the primary characters in the story. Read about them if you like, or simply discover them in the story.
Michael ChandlerAn 11th grade, introverted chemistry whiz kid who has made education his personal pastime. A former little league all-american, Michael volunteers no explanation for his sudden abandonment of the sport he excelled at so well. In the four years since his decision, he has disappeared into the background, becoming a friendless, boring student, an open target to humorous jokes and geeky puns. Michael's only alternate thought outside of Chemistry is getting up the nerve to speak to his dream girl, Treecy Shaw. |
Michele ChandlerSuddenly, the newest student at Westside High, Michele tries frantically to adjust to her sudden newfound womanhood. In her attempt to be as inconspicuous as possible, she emerges as the school's most talked about student. |
Ricky ChandlerMichael's athletic younger brother is forced into a life-questioning scenario, as his curiosity gets the best of him in the chemistry lab's storage room. After Michael's accident, Ricky wrestles with tremendous guilt over the insurmountable drama he's brought into his entire family's lives. |
Professor StruballForced into resigning his tenure status as professor at a prominent university after a chemical experiment goes frighteningly wrong, leaving an entire building contaminated indefinitely. His only opportunity for employment came in the form of a Chemistry 1 teacher in a suburban high school. Absent-minded and risk driven, the professor earns a reputation for blowing up the lab at least once a month. Despite his demotion and relocation, he secretly continues the same experiment he began at the University years earlier. |
Francis ChandlerMother of Michael and Ricky, she has literally thrown herself into her new job as the first black principal of Central Senior High School. Anxious to make good on her promise to improve the educational environment at her school, she works day and night tirelessly, with almost no contact with her family. |
James ChandlerFather of the boys, James constantly tries to get Michael to return to baseball. The tension between them is always high, preventing any level of communication from forming. This leaves James lost in confusion and deep in frustration. To make matters worse, he secretly resents the fact that Francis now makes more money than he does. |
Patricia "Treecy" ShawThe secret desire of Michael's heart is a vision of loveliness, but has her own issues to deal with. Fair skinned and very attractive, Treecy is most hated girl on campus, and considered stuck up and unapproachable by every guy. She's unattached, and not by choice. Without a real friend to confide in, she bonds with the other female misfits of Westside High. |
Denise BlackwellNicknamed the school Jockette, she likes competing with the boys on every level. However, the tradeoff is she loses the ability to make the guys see her as a girl. Disguising her disappointment with humor and a flip attitude, she constantly hopes to someday discover her feminine side. |
Thomas "King" StreeterAs Westside High's most gifted athlete, there's no sport King doesn't excel at. Obviously an all-around athlete, everyone is convinced King is bound for the NFL, except King. |
Belinda DavisThe ex- girlfriend of King, Belinda resents any woman who attempts to replace her. Determined not to give up, Belinda searches high and low for a way to regain her rightful place next to King. |
Xanthia MurrayThe gang's carribean import, Xanthia, or Zant, is all Jamaican. She has a great sense of humor and strong athletic abilities. She's on the softball team, and plays first base. |
Lisa JacksonThe self proclaimed "cute" one of the group, Lisa is only sure of one thing: that her boyfriend Dexter, who's away at college, will return to marry her after he graduates. The others are sick of hearing her Dexter stories, and don't believe for a minute that he will hold out for his high school sweetheart. But they still support her, as all true misfit friends should. |
Eric "Ice" McGheeDefinitely the meanest student at Westside, Ice is all about Ice. Period. Often frustrated that he's not the best athlete at school because of King, Ice will do anything to show him up. Ice gets his kicks daily by beating up the underclassmen, including Michael, then pats himself on the back for being the only one willing to protect them from other bullies. |
