I've decided to link to the websites I've visited the most during the last month. Does that make them my favorites? Oh well.. at least until NEXT month! :^)

samgrant.com welcomes TWIN!

Terry and Jerry Lynn are identical twin brothers who paint collaboratively under the pseudonym “Twin”. What is remarkable in their collaboration, however, is the that they often work on a piece at the same time, seamlessly merging their styles techniques and contribution to create a fully realized work that bears no evidence of having been the work of two artist.

The artists were born and still live in a suburb outside of Memphis, Tn. They were encouraged and supported early on in their love of art by their parents and later attended the University of Memphis.

They acknowledge various influences on their work but a dominant one is the vibrant blues and jazz scene of Beale Street in their native Memphis. A southern flavor flows through much of their work, yet their abstract paintings have a markedly modern and cosmopolitan flair. The twins and their work have been featured in publications and on television and they have exhibited in galleries across the U.S. Other credits include official artist of the 1988 Essence Music Awards in New York City, and artist for the official poster for the 1997 Philadelphia Art Expo.

Congrats, fellahs! You're the newest link!

This section will be a showcase for former newbie sites. Highly favored stuff will find a permanent spot in the Hot Links list!

The Web Standards Awards aims to promote web site design using W3C standards by seeking out and highlighting the finest standards-compliant sites on the Internet. By showing you standards-compliant sites that make your jaw drop, we hope to show you that web standards aren't a constraint, they are a liberation! Definitely a site for the bookmarks.

PAPER? OR TOKYO PLASTIC?

Every now and then, I come across a site that uses Flash SO well, I just gotta share it with everybody. Tokyoplastic.com is so far out there, that I can't really classify it as anything more than "spectacular." It covers so much stuff that I leave it before viewing the whole site, just to have an excuse to come back again. If you're REALLY into Flash, and the levels it can achieve, this site will either make you cheer these guys, or go in the corner and cry. Either way, don't miss this site! Caution: It's a greedy little website, and demands a fast connection or else!

The Keepers of the CSS Keys

Designing with Cascading Style Sheets is no easy task, and those of us who struggle daily with know these truths. But some of us have found bliss in the midst of this rotating landscape, and it's only fair that we give them their props.

This site serves as a companion to the book Eric Meyer on CSS, now available from New Riders Publishing. He taught me everything I know!

The CSS Zen Garden is by far the pinnacle of CSS design. It's a demonstration of what can be accomplished visually through CSS-based design. So many people have done amazing things here. Someday, maybe me...?

{CSS}Dev designer Andy Peatling is a web developer living in London, United Kingdom. Currently studying for a BS in Multimedia Technology and Design, Andy finds time away from his studies to talk about web design related issues, primarily in web standards.

Online since May 1995, Jeffrey Zeldman Presents is the personal site of web designer, author, and stunt double Jeffrey Zeldman. You can always count on him for riveting commentary on Web Standards.

Jared Christensen works as a graphic/web designer out in the wild frontier of Texas, but his status as a Texan is questionable at best due to his failure to own the obligatory cowboy hat, boots, and/or three Willie Nelson albums. Worth the look. His site is primo web design.

For people who make websites

If I could list one site as the "most informative CSS site ever", it's definitely THIS one. A List Apart explores the design, development, and meaning of web content, with a special focus on techniques and benefits of designing with web standards. It covers everything surrounding the web design industry, but the CSS stuff is sweet! Bookmark and burn the boats!

A Vaulted Ceiling? NOT!

The host of the CSS Vault wrote: "This site is useful for me as a designer and I hope that it is useful for you whether you are a designer, developer, programmer, manager, or just a CSS advocate. Instead of showing off great sites to everyone, let's show off great sites that use CSS so we can inspire others to use the technology." What else is there? GO SEE IT!

iPod the Planet!

Soon the iPod will take over the planet. Apple will eventually activate the secret "mind control device" hidden in the earbuds, then we'll pick up our pitchforks and torches and burn Redmond to the ground! Hey, it could happen!!

If anyone comes looking for me, I'll be in the iLounge. 'Nuff said.

One Hit.. Wonder Where He Is Now?

I took a stab at GarageBand and put together this song as a Christmas gift to my Fall Term students. The feedback was so flattering, I've decided to repost the link. You can download the song "My Best Day" from here. Consider a token of my appreciation for your visit. iPod the Planet!

iPods Make the World Go Away

As technology becomes more pervasive in our lives, we seek out other less obtrusive gadgets to protect us from all the noise. David Kirkpatrick of FORTUNE.com says that the industry's opportunities are growing, not diminishing, as people have easier access to music and listen to it more often.

my fave web comix

These guys are my inspiration. I'm going to post my own my own comic later in the year. Just thought I'd give my visitors a glance at what impresses me. It's not always about the art. I also love a great storyline. Enjoy!

The best comic on the net, bar none, is PVPOnline. Scott Kurtz has produced a consistent stream of great gags and storylines so good, that I recommend you go to the archives and start from the first strip.

Jump Start is a daily comic strip by cartoonist Robb Armstrong. It portrays the trials and tribulations of young African American couple Joe and Marcy Cobb as they try to balance the demands of work and raising their young children, Sunny, Jojo and twins Tommi and Teddy. In Marcy and Joe the reader sees an average middle class couple, busy with work and raising a family. Armstrong says, "The image of young blacks is so skewed, so false. I don't know anybody who's carjacking, playing basketball, rapping. Joe and Marcy and the characters I've developed are deep and based on real life." Thanks, Robb! I thought it was just ME who experienced that!

I've gotten seriously addicted to Wapsi Square by Paul Taylor. It follows the day to day stories and relationships between a group of five post college friends and a school teacher turned bartender.  Various story lines deal with grade school crushes, blind dates, the perceptions of others, and the Aztec god of alcohol. Yep! You heard me!

Girls With Slingshots is a comic by Danielle Corsetto, following the life of an edgy 20-something coming into her own as she juggles work, friends, and attempted relationships. It's very helpful in my writings about women and their personalities. Oh yeah, it's funny as hell, too.

Welcome to the Web Cartoonists Choice Awards! Fundamentally, this award, like every other award, means nothing, it’s just a title. There is no cash prize, and winning the award won’t guarantee your comic success. Also, not winning the award doesn’t mean that your comic is unworthy or inferior. There are simply a lot of online comics out there, and this is one small attempt to broaden the recognition of what fellow cartoonists we can; and hopefully expand all of our awareness of a few more great comics that are out there, that some of us may not know about.
